The 38-year-old arrives at the auditions with his mother and 11-month-old daughter Anna Maria, explaining that he has arrived on the wishes of his late wife.
Speaking in the audition room, Evans says: "Every year I have had the forms but never filled them in and always found an excuse, then last year after giving birth to my gorgeous baby girl, my wife unfortunately passed away.
"I obviously learnt some hard lessons and realised life is too short so now I decided this year to go for it so at least I can say I tried."
Evans's performance of Barry Manilow's 'Sometimes When We Touch' brings Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue to tears.
They both agree that the singer's rendition would have made his wife "very proud".
